WHY I STARTED SELLING DIGITAL FILES
I hesitated for 5 years. Here's the real story.
The Real Story
If you don't know me, I'm Tom. I run turnedninja.com, where I sell printed posters, canvases, and merch. (You can read the full origin story there, it started with me trolling my best friend by drawing him as a Naruto character. Ha ha!)
When I started drawing fanart (Vegeta, Itachi, Zoro, and all those characters), people immediately started asking: "Can I buy the digital files?"
Print shop owners wanted them. POD sellers wanted them. Fans who just wanted to print at home wanted them. The requests kept coming. Every week. For 5 years.
And for 5 years, I said no. I was scared. What if people share the files everywhere? What if it destroys my small business? I was selling physical products, posters, canvases, shirts. If everyone has the files, why would they buy from me?
I was really worried.
But the requests never stopped. And then something else happened, my customers started reporting that people were downloading the low-quality thumbnail images from my website, upscaling them, and selling prints. The results were terrible, blurry, no details, bad prints. It made me sad to see my art being sold like that.
My art style is unique. There's nothing else like it in the world. People love it because it's different. And here were people ruining it with bad upscales.
So I thought: if people want the files that badly, maybe I should just offer the real thing, proper high-resolution files with all the details intact. At least then shop owners who want to sell my art can do it right.
So I decided to give it a try.
That's how Turned Ninja Digital started. Some art will be shared between here and my physical store at turnedninja.com. But I'm also drawing new art, some will be exclusive here (digital files only), and some will be exclusive to my physical store. This way, both can exist without stepping on each other's toes.
I'm still a bit nervous about it. Ha ha! But let's see how it goes. If you're here, thank you for giving me a chance.
